The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi unveiled the National Emblem cast on the roof of the New Parliament Building on 13th July 2022. The National Emblem is made of bronze with a total weight of 9500 Kg and is 6.5 m in height. It has been cast at the top of the Central Foyer of New Parliament Building. A supporting structure of steel weighing around 6500 Kg has been constructed to support the Emblem. The concept sketch and process of casting of the National Emblem on the roof of New Parliament Building has gone through eight different stages of preparation from clay modeling/computer graphic to bronze casting and polishing.

Unveiling of 'Guru Nanak Village Way' street

Consul General Manish participated in an event organized by Surrey City Council and Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) to rename the street 175 A in Surrey as Guru Nanak Village Way, in the name of first Sikh Guru Nanak Devji on July 22, 2022. The event saw participation of political leaders from Federal, Provincial and City level and members of Indo Canadian community. Consul General in his remarks lauded the implementation of the decision by Surrey Council to rename the street in the name of first Sikh Guru. The street leads to the project site where PICS is to build a 125 bed senior care home with the support of BC Govt and community.

Interaction with community artists

As part of #AKAM preparations, Consulate organized an interaction with community artists on 22 July 2022. Consul General spoke on the upcoming events and sought support of the community groups to celebrate various events in August-September 2022 in a befitting manner. He also handed over token of appreciation to Yoga gurus, who partnered with Consulate for #IDY2022 celebrations. Community artist Neeraja Aptikar and Jyotika Jasuja performed during the occasion.

Conference on ‘Awareness of Ayurveda in Canada’

As part of the #AzadiKaAmritMahotsav, Consulate General of India, Vancouver, in partnership with Sewanti, Vancouver organised a Conference on ‘Awareness of Ayurveda in Canada’ in Surrey on 23rd July, 2022. The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Martina Ziska, Czech Ayurvedic Scholar with a strong background in clinical research, medical publishing and clinical experience in ayurvedic and allopathic medicine. The event was attended by over 60 guests, including Dr. Jaisri Lambert, Founder, CARE Foundation; Neelam Toprani, Founding Director, AAC & CEO Sewanti; Erica Mueller, Director, AAC & Ayurveda Practitioner; Vaidya Rashesh Patel and Vaidya Naresh Dutta, Ayurveda Practitioners, who were also on the panel to discuss the awareness of Ayurveda in Canada. The event was also attended by heads of various diaspora organizations and media representatives.

Celebration by Khalsa Diwan Society

Consul General Manish attended a celebration organized by Khalsa Diwan Society in Victoria to mark the completion of the renovation of the Gurudwara from the grant given by BC government. The celebration saw participation of leaders from BC Government led by Premier of British Columbia Hon John Horgan, Mayors, MLAs and other political leaders and officials. A large number of Sangat members were also present in the Gurudwara. Premier Horgan and other political leaders spoke during the occasion. In his remarks CG recalled the contributions of 110 year old Gurudwara in daily life of the Indo-Canadian community as a place of worship, teaching and other social and economic needs. He lauded the role of Sikh community in socio-economic development of their community and their ‘Sewa’ for the society and people in need. He congratulated the Premier and his team for the financial continuation for upgrading the amenities in the Gurudwara. The KDS Victoria was founded in 1912.

Distinguished Indologist Award- 2021

Consul General of India Mr. Manish conferred Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) Distinguished Indologist Award- 2021 to Mr. Jeffery Armstrong, Founder, Vedic Academy of Science & Arts (VASA) and the author of the “The Bhagavad Gita Comes Alive”. At an event held on 26th July, 2022 in Vancouver, Mr. Armstrong received a citation and gold plated medallion as part of the award. Mr. Armstrong becomes the seventh recipient of this award, and joins the earlier distinguished recipients from Germany, China, Japan, UK, South Korea and USA. The award recognizes Mr. Armstrong's four decade long contribution in research and teachings of Indian studies abroad. The event was attended by distinguished guests of various diaspora organizations and media representatives.

Cathedral, Kohima, Nagaland
The Catholic Cathedral situated in Kohima is a major tourist attraction for the people visiting the place. Located in the Aradura hills in Kohima, the Catholic cathedral is the center of Catholic Church in Nagaland. With amazing architectural structure, the church is a semi circular building. It is built in traditional naga style and is considered one of the biggest cathedrals in the entire north east India. The crucifix of Kohima cathedral is in fact the tallest in India. Carved out of wood, the crucifix is Kohima cathedralaround sixteen feet high and considered as one of the tallest crucifixes in Asia. The cathedral holds in it, the last remains of the first Bishop of Nagaland, Rt. Rev Abraham Alangimattathil.

India to have joint theatre command of tri-services, says Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said a joint theatre commands of tri-services would be set up to enhance coordination among armed forces. He was speaking during a programme organised by the Jammu Kashmir People's Forum to pay tributes to the martyrs of the Indian Armed Forces, news agency PTI reported. "Keeping in view (joint operations as seen in Operation Vijay in Kargil), we have decided to set up joint theatre commands (in the country)," Singh said.

Development assistance continues to play an important role in India’s engagement with not just the neighbourhood but also Africa. While a total of 37 lines of credit (LoCs) worth $14.27 billion covering 162 projects have been extended to five countries in the neighbourhood, another 222 LoCs worth $14.07 billion covering as many as 357 projects have been extended to 42 countries in Africa.
