Meeting with Community Members 
(August 27, 2021)

Consul General Manish had a meeting with Dr A. P. Sukumar and Kumar Verma members of Indo-Canadian community in Vancouver working to promote Indian culture. Discussion focussed on organizing various cultural events in partnership with Consulate to mark the  Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and 75th anniversary of India’s Independence. It was agreed to organize Indian Music Festival, Indian Classical Musical Concert, discourse on epics from India and organizing Namaste Canada. Dr Sukumar presented to Consul General two of his English writings- Ramayana in 30 days based on Ezhutthachan’s Adhyatma Ramayana Kilippaatu and Mandlam Musings. Kumar Verma presented the promotional posters of the musical events organized by him in partnership with Consulate.

Hindu Heritage Month - Alberta (August 27, 2021)

August is Commemorated as Hindu Heritage Month in Alberta. On 27 August 2021 Govt of Alberta officially celebrated the Hindu Heritage month at McDougal Centre, Calgary. Over 200 attendees representing various States in India, members of temples in the Calgary metropolitan area, various cultural and linguistic associations and ethnic media participated in the celebrations. Youth singers from the Bharatiya Multicultural Heritage Society of Calgary sang the national anthems at the beginning. Pandit Sodiyal lead candle ceremony and invocation. Infrastructure Minister Prasad Panda along with Culture Minister Orr, Minister Shandro, MLA Aheer, MLA Singh, MLA Jones, MLA Nixon, and MLA Toor lit the candle. MLA Aheer acted as MC for the event. Minister Panda addressed the community and thanked them for the important role that Hindus have played and continue to play in communities across Alberta. Minister of Culture Orr also addressed the gathering. Chair of HIndu Society of Calgary board of trustees Ragini Narang provided remarks on Hinduism. Menooha Koneru performed a Ganeha sthuthi, a religious dance. Kalyani Akkipeddi and Aruna Komakula from the Calgary Bharatnatyam Music Group performed Slokas Chanting and Hindu devotional songs.

Consular Camp at Saskatoon (August 28, 2021)

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver organized a Consular Camp at Gurudwara Sahib, Saskatoon on 28th August in association with India-Canada Cultural Association.

 

Books Donation on 'Sikh Heritage' (August 28, 2021)

During the Consular Camp at Gurudwara Sahib, Saskatoon on 28th August, Consul Sunila Krishnan presented books on Sikh Heritage to the Committee members of the Gurudwara Sahib, Saskatoon.

 

Meeting with Indian Diaspora  (August 28, 2021)

During the Consular Camp at Saskatoon on 28th August, the Consular team interacted with Indian Diaspora and Students in Saskatoon.

 

‘Janmashtami’ Celebrations (August 29, 2021)

Srijani Global in partnership with Consulate General of India, Vancouver was celebrated ‘Janmashtami’ on August 29, 2021 at 8.30 AM PST as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Consul General Mr. Manish was participated in the event and conveyed his greetings.

Meeting with CINS (August 30, 2021)

Consulate had partnered with Canada India Network Society (CINS) in organizing a three-day Conference on the theme “Lowering the Burden of Chronic Disease Through Integrative Thinking–Voices From the Trenches” from 18-20 June 2021. The event was organized on the occasion of IDY2021. In a meeting with Consul General on 30 August 2021 the board members of CINS led by Dr. Arun Garg, President, CINS presented to Consul General a plaque and a set of books on health-related matters. They also discussed the issue of integrative system of medical care which can treat chronic diseases by taking the best practices of Indian traditional medical systems like Yoga, Ayurveda etc. and the modern medical system. It was agreed that both sides would continue to promote the integrative approach by bringing together best practitioners of both India and Canada.  

Navarang 2nd Edition (August 31, 2021)

2nd Edition of ‘Navrang’ Fortnightly Cultural Performance of Carnatic Music by Ms. Lakshmi Menon, a graduate from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food, Nutrition and Health, was live broadcasted on the Facebook page of the Consulate on 31st August, 2021.
