CONSUL GENERAL VISIT TO NORTHWEST TERRITORIES

Consul General Manish met with Hon. Mayor Rebecca Alty at Yellowknife and discussed possible cooperation with the city in areas of tourism, culture & economic sphere.

Consul General Manish met with Hon. Pamela Strand, Deputy Minister of Industry, Tourism & Investment, and Hon. Melissa Cyr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Economic Development, Industry, Tourism & Investment, Government of Northwest Territories, in Yellowknife and discussed opportunities for economic engagement between the Northwest Territories and India. Critical minerals, tourism, & skilled manpower are potential areas for cooperation.

Consul General Manish had a discussion with the President of NWT Chamber of Commerce Newton Gray & Yellowknife Chamber President Adrian Bell in Yellowknife. Opportunities for cooperation in mining, innovation, tourism, and skilled manpower mobility were discussed.

Consul General Manish had extensive discussions with Executive Director Karen Costello of Northwest Territories (NWT) & Nunavut Chamber of Mines during his visit to Yellowknife. Diamonds have been the primary export to India from NWT. Opportunities for cooperation in other minerals were also explored.

Consul General Manish during his visit to Yellowknife met with representatives of Indian diaspora living & working there. Yellowknife is home to several hundred Indians who are positively contributing to Northwest Territories economy. Consul General discussed ideas of cooperation between the Consulate and the diaspora.

Consul General Manish met with Tlicho Investment Corporation CEO Paul Gruner during his visit to Yellowknife. During the meeting, they exchanged views on the priorities of Tlicho Investment Corporation and possible areas of cooperation with India including in mining sector, tourism etc.

Consul General Manish met with Regional Director General of Crown-Indigenous Relations & Northern Affairs of Canada (CIRNAC) Ron Pankartz in Yellowknife and discussed programs and policies of the government in the Northwest Territories.

Consul General Manish during his visit to Yellowknife took a tour of the Legislative Assembly, and was briefed on the history and evolution of the Assembly, the process of formation of government, selection of Premier & Speaker following MLA elections.

Consul General Manish had a meeting with Mr. Ranjith Narayanasamy, CEO, Petroleum Technology Research Centre(PTRC), Saskatchewan, in Vancouver and discussed various issues of mutual interest. Mr. Ranjith conveyed his gratitude for Consul General’s invaluable assistance & support to the Saskatchewan diaspora & for PTRC’s CCS initiatives in India.

On the invitation of Boards Members of the Khalsa Diwan Society (KDS), Consul General Manish visited the KDS Ross Street Gurdwara on 22 April 2024. The Consul General offered his prayers at the Gurdwara and interacted with the current Vice President, past President, and other members of KDS.
