During the 110th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ PM Narendra Modi highlighted women’s achievements, drone technology, and wildlife conservation efforts. High Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Verma and Consul General Manish met with Mr Martin Glynn, Chair of the Board of PSP Investments in Vancouver. PSP is one the Canada’s largest pension investment managers. Discussion focused on India's opportunities for Canadian pension funds, India-Canada economic engagement, the geo-political situation, and the robustness of the growth story in India.

 

 


Consulate General of India in association with BC India Business Network (BCIBN) hosted an interactive business event with the High Commissioner of India to Canada, H.E. Sanjay Kumar Verma in Vancouver. The event was attended by prominent guests from businesses based in the Greater Vancouver Area. In his address, High Commissioner highlighted India’s growth story, India’s aspirations during Amrit kaal, India’s rising stature in geopolitics, and developmental assistance to the global South and North as well. He also informed about the recent political and trade engagements between leaders from India and Canada, robust growth in trade & services, investment by Canadian pension funds in India, the areas of possibilities available for joint collaboration, and success stories of Canadian companies in India. He also answered queries from the guests.

 

 

Consulate General of India in partnership with Canada India Tech Council (CITC) hosted an interactive session with the High Commissioner of India to Canada, H.E. Sanjay Kumar Verma during his visit to Vancouver. The co-chairs of CITC’s BC Chapter, Girish Thakur & Divyanshu (Div) Dixit, CFA, and members from the Vancouver region attended the event. The topics discussed included research collaboration in Gen AI, collaboration on IP protection & research security, pre-vetting of the tech marketplace, investments in startups, technology trade delegations, and mentoring PHD students among others.

 

Consul General Manish met Dr. Sriram Subramaniam, Professor, Faculty of Medicine, UBC. Dr. Subramaniam is also Gobind Khorana Canada Excellence Research Chair in Precision Cancer Drug Design. Consul General and Dr. Subramaniam discussed their respective domains of work and agreed to continue exploring opportunities for mutual cooperation. CG also took a tour of the laboratory managed by Dr. Subramaniam.

 


Consul General Manish met Dr. Benoit-Antoine Bacon, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia (UBC) on 26 February 2024. While congratulating the new UBC President on his appointment and wishing him all the best in his future endeavors, CG briefed him about recent developments in India in the Higher Education Sector, including NEP 2020, and the opportunities that have emerged for cooperation in the field of higher education. Stressing the important relationship with India and agreeing to work towards strengthening the linkages, Dr. Bacon also expressed his desire to visit India soon.

 

Consul General Manish attended the 647th Guru Ravidass Jayanti celebrations organized by Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha, Vancouver. In his address, Consul General conveyed his greetings on the occasion of the Gurpurab to the Sangat and recalled the life and work of Guru Ravidass Ji.
