12TH PASSPORT SEVA DIVAS

39 years ago on 23rd June, 1985, 329 innocent people including 268 Canadians and 24 Indian, and among whom 86 were children, lost their lives in to the dastardly bombing of Air India flight 182. Consul General Mr. Masakui Rungsung joined prominent members of the community and some family members of the victims who lost their live to pay homage at the Air India Memorial at Stanley Park, Vancouver.
Consul General laid a wreath at the memorial and joined in the prayer meeting that was performed in remembrance.

Others at the memorial included Conservative MP from Langley Hon. Tako Van Popta, Provincial Minister for Health Hon. Adrian Dix, MLA Hon. Jinny Sims, former Hon MLA Mr. Dave S. Hayer, City Park Board Commissioner Angela Haer, representatives of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), family members of some of the victims and around 150 well wishers.

 

The 10th edition of International Day of Yoga was celebrated by the Consulate General of India, Vancouver on Saturday, 22 June 2024 at the iconic David Lam Park. Hon. Brenda Bailey, Minister of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation, Government of British Columbia attended the celebration. She greeted the participants and delivered a message on behalf of the BC Government. The event was also attended by Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung, Park Board Commissioners, Vancouver School Board Trustee, and Dean & members of Consular Corps of BC.
Consul General in his welcome address thanked the dignitaries and the participants for their enthusiasm and support.

In his remarks, Consul General stressed the importance of incorporating the practice of Yoga into our daily lives. More than 300 yoga enthusiasts participated in the event. A Yoga session as per CYP was led by a team of yoga practitioners, mostly female-embodying Nari Shakti.

 

Consul General was invited as Chief Guest for the 'Invest India Invest Canada 2024' event organized by the Canadian Hindu Chamber of Commerce in Surrey. Mr. Kushagr Sharma, President of the Chamber welcomed CG and made introductory remarks.

 Consul General during his remarks highlighted the importance of strengthening economic ties between India and Canada. Surrey City Councillor Linda Annis and Mike Bose also spoke on the occasion. The event saw participation of large number of invitees and also saw series of cultural performances showcasing the rich cultural heritage of India.

Consul General met with members of the IIT Alumni Association (BC Chapter) during their summer gathering. Mr. Praveen Goel, President of the Association welcomed Consul General and introduced him to members of the association.

He also spoke about the activities of the association and their regular interactions with the Consulate. 
 Consul General during his interactions with members discussed the possible collaborations between Consulate and the Association.

 

 


Consul General Masakui Rungsung was pleased to meet and interact with the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain, who is on a visit to Vancouver as India's representative to attend the 41st Board meeting of the Commonwealth of Learning.
