Consulate General partnered with Sabzi Mandi Super Market store chain in Surrey to launch the promotion of millets and millet products in their 11 stores in Greater Vancouver Area in order to celebrate International Year of Millets. Consul General along with owner of the store Mr Ravindra Narula launched the special promotion on 7 March 2023.

 

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver participated in the Holi festival programme entitled “Rang Aapke Sang” organized by the Hindi Literary Society of Canada B.C, on 5 March 2023 at Shanti Niketan, Surrey. More than 150 people of Indian diaspora participated in the programme. The programme included beautiful poetry recitation, holi songs, dance and play by young and adult groups which was highly appreciated by the gathering. The Consulate appreciated the efforts of the Hindi Literary Society of Canada BC for arranging such a colourful programme and conveyed best wishes for peace, prosperity, happiness and colurful Holi to Indian diaspora and participants.

PEARL MILLET

The most extensively cultivated millet is pearl millet. Large stems, leaves, and heads characterize this summer cereal grass. Bajra is a type of millet and is one of the most cultivated crops in India. It is a short-duration crop and can be grown in both rain fed and irrigated conditions. Bajra is a rich source of proteins, minerals, and vitamins and is a good source of energy. It is also a good source of dietary fiber.
