Virtual Meeting with Council Of India Societies of Edmonton (June 03, 2021)

Consul General Mr. Manish held a virtual meeting on 03 June, 2021 with Ms. Gunjan Sharma and  other Board Members of Council Of India Societies of Edmonton. Consul General briefed them on the present COVID-19 situation in India and steps being taken by Government of India to deal with the situation. On the query  raised by them on Consular matters and the process of donations to India, CG briefed them of the new changes in the Consular Services, including OCI, as well as the process of sending donations to India.  The discussion also focused on partnering with CISE on celebrating #IndiaAt75 to commemorate #AzadiKaAmritMahatosav. CISE welcomed the proposal of the Consulate to celebrate India@75.

American investors splurged investment in India in 2020, despite COVID 19 battered the economy. Indian GDP dropped by about 7 percent in 2020. India's Biological E. Limited has announced a licensing agreement with Canadian company Providence Therapeutics Holdings to manufacture its mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in India. Providence will sell up to 30 million doses of its proprietary messenger RNA vaccine, PTX-COVID19-B, Biological E said in a statement on Tuesday.


PM Trudeau calls upon Canadians to support India facing health crisis

Showing solidarity with India at a time when it is faced with the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday encouraged Canadians to help India. At a time when Canada continues to struggle with COVID-19, Trudeau explained that Canadians cannot ignore the world’s more vulnerable nations and that they must look beyond national borders to help in any way they can, he said in an interview with ET Canada.

Govt extends visa validity of foreigners stuck in India till August 31

Owing to Covid-19 restrictions on international commercial flights, the government on Friday extended the visa validity of foreigners stuck in India from March last year to August 31, 2021. Earlier, these foreign nationals had to get their visa extended every month.
